Star Metro, letter 6 Nov 2013

“We live in an age where some residents in high-risk spots fear for their security at all times. With broad consensus from the residents concerned, the RAs have taken a practical solution to protect themselves and their properties in view of the inadequacies of our system.
Looking at the situation, the local authorities should have come up with an objective assessment of the area before taking the hard-line approach.
Many questioned the enforcement action by the local council, which should always be above reproach as it is their responsibility to protect residents, too.
It is clear that dissenting views are not uncommon when it comes to the gated-and-guarded concept.”

MBPJ orders RAs to take down illegal guard booths and boom gates
If the authority and police able to control the criminal. Why the resident (tax payee) need to go to that extend to protect their home and family? We have better thing to do, why we need to spare our valuable time and spend so much effort even being spit!
Who do not want to live peacefully by getting legal application? Whose know? but only RA know the road to legal G&G and guard house approval is difficult than climbing Mount Everest! Not the resident dont want to legalize it.
Isn’t the goverment promoting rukun tetangga thus far? By setting that kind of sky high rule of application, what you expect the resident (volunteer) can do? sigh…..
Why residents rather risking of putting up illegal boom gate than to get approval from majlis, because it is better than risking of your life, belonging and properties.

Yes, I totally agreed with Eddy Ng.
The government & the police have been talking about the safety is not just the responsibility of the police force but the public as well and we should be taking additional measures to protect ourselves or assist the police to fight crimes.
I think the Majlis should give due consideration when deciding taking any actions against the RA when majority of the residents have spoken for the G&G scheme for the landed properties. The RA and the residents only want safety and the Majlis should understand and be considerate for the benefits of the majority residents and should not give in to a handful of residents who opposed the scheme.
From hearsay and some news, we know that those who opposed the scheme are usually the former committee members of RA and when they don’t get what they have demanded for or they are voted out of the committee, due to ‘unhappy’ reasons, they will ensure the scheme will not be success by complaining to the Majlis or other government authorities.
I believe in the genuine intention of the RA is to keep a safe environment for its residents to live and not to inconvenience those who opposed the scheme.
Some of the reasons cited for the operation include obstruction of common property or common pathways, as well as the numerous residents’ complaints to the council.
